I’m not talking about all the other gods from all the other religions, I’m going to talk about the god or gods of Christianity. Whether you’re going to look at one God who has two other gods, the Holy Spirit and Jesus, or whether you’re going to look at one God.., I’d better stop before I even get confused.
All this God stuff gets kind of confusing sometimes. Anyway, if God designed marriage to be permanent, and you truly believed this, let’s take a look at some statistics. I’m not going to refer to any government statistics, Christian statistics, atheists statistics or any other organized entity that produces information, that might or might not be correct.
I’m going to select 10 people that I know, are Christians and see what I actually come up with. Let’s start with all the people that I know who never got divorced. Both of my grandparents, my aunt and uncle, my sister and three of my cousins. If I do my math right, that’s six Christian families who haven’t got divorced yet.
Now let’s look at the people who I know that are Christians and have been divorced. I will also list how many times they have been married. My father is on his third marriage, one of my uncles was married three times and wouldn’t get married again, my brother, and my friend. That’s four for the nonbelievers.
Unless we add up how many times each one of them had been married. You’re going to be shocked, but between these four people, they had been married 10 times. Each one of them was married in a Christian church and I would consider them Christians.
Individually, 60% of all Christian marriages stay together, but if I combine the amount of marriages that each one of these people had, the Christian marriages that had weathered the storm and were still married, would be a 37%. That’s one out of every three people, who gets married and are Christians, end up in divorce.
The next time that someone gives you a statistic about marriage, you should understand that these numbers can be manipulated and usually are.
